5/22 update (not 5/15 like the email says... oops)

Redhawks,

That is a wrap on the Outdoor 2022 season, and it has been one that I have really enjoyed. I want to thank all of you for making it a memorable and fun season.

Team Party

We will have a team party tomorrow, Monday at 3 PM at West Bountiful City Park - that is the park off of pages lane, near the the freeway. There will be ice creak sundaes, we'll have awards, honor the seniors and say our farewells, play sand volleyball or other park games, and generally hang out. If you have any lawn-games like spikeball or anything else, please bring them. Even if you kind of fizzled out at the end of the year, you are still invited to the end of year party.

I have created a form for some voting, please go vote here on a few awards.

Uniforms

PLEASE BRING ME YOUR UNIFORM TOMORROW AT SCHOOL. I have the secretaries place fines on the accounts of those who have not returned the uniforms to me, and it needs to be placed tomorrow before noon. So bring it to me before then or you will have a fine and will be unable to pick up your yearbook. Don't bring it to the party, the fines already need to be entered by then. Also, if you are doing xc with Bountiful next year (this excludes seniors OBVIOUSLY), you can hold on to yours for now. Just tell me if that is your plan. (This just kicks the can down the road, you'll still need to return it next year.)

Wrap

I don't have adjectives to properly describe how great the experience has been to be the coach at Bountiful High, and I will miss each of you. The friendships built here are ones that I will always treasure, and while I'll be coaching at another school, I will always consider myself your coach, and I hope you feel the same way.

5/15 update

 Redhawks,

Well done to everyone at Region, and now we are on to State. You can find the entries for state here. Look them over and let me know if anything is incorrect. Look over the relay teams as well. Alternates, we need you at the meet, planning as if you are going to run, so that if anything happens we can sub you in.

State Meet Schedule

There won't be a bus to state, so please make arrangements to arrive with plenty of time to be ready for your event. I suggest 2 hours early (so you can make it through traffic, have time to get into the facility, which requires a bit of a walk, have time to find the team, warm up, and check in - which is more cumbersome at BYU than a typical meet), with the exception only being the first event of the day.

Those who aren't competing at state are still encouraged to attend and support. Everyone who comes down to the meet will be excused from school for the day (Thursday). ALL WHO ARE GOING TO STATE NEED TO SPEAK WITH THEIR A-DAY TEACHERS ASAP TO LET THEM KNOW YOU WON'T BE THERE ON THURSDAY, AND MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO MAKE UP ANYTHING YOU WILL MISS.

JV Region on Tuesday, 5/17

Everyone NOT competing at state is eligible to compete at JV region. However, in many instances, if you were a borderline state runner/thrower/jumper, it is probably not appropriate for you to be competing at JV region. Speak with me if that applies to you and you are interested in competing.

If you do not intend to compete at the meet on Tuesday, LET ME KNOW ASAP, so that I don't enter you. The last thing we want to do is enter a million people who aren't even going to show up, and then the meet takes way longer with multiple heats only half full. That being said, if I don't see you at practices over the next few days, I'm probably not going to enter you, just assuming you have quit.

The bus for JV region leaves at 1:30, so you will be excused at 1:15 on Tuesday. Those in the class do not need to come until boarding the bus.

Those going to state are strongly encouraged to come to Bonneville to do your workout before the meet, and then support your teammates. The meet will probably be a bit longer than most... Maybe we'll go get dinner as a team after returning to Bountiful?? (Bring some money just in case)

Let me know if you have any questions.

5/8 update

Redhawks,

Thank you for all of your help at the meet on Thursday. We got through it very efficiently and had some very good performances. You can find the results on Runnercard.

We also had a host of PRs down at BYU over the weekend. Friday was a hot one and Maeli and Jaelyn were there for like 8 hours, and both managed to PR in both the 100 and 200. Mia and Evi sat in the sun for literally 6.5 hours to try to get through the High Jump, so props to them simply for surviving (there were about 160 girls in the high jump, so it took FOREVER to move through the event - I've honestly never seen anything like it and hopefully never will again). Lesileli came down both days to throw and hit a PR with 90 feet in the discus, and narrowly missed the 30 foot mark in the shot, after waiting hours for her flight to finally go as well. Our milers and 800 runners also had a great day overall, with some really big PRs. We learned some valuable lessons and will be better prepared for region as a result.

This week we have the Region Championships on Wednesday and Thursday at Woods Cross. For all lane events, the trials are on Wednesday, with the finals being on Thursday. Only the top 8 runners of the trials will advance to finals.

This is the meet where you can officially qualify for state by place. Previously, at any of the invites, everyone who hit a legal, state qualifying time qualified for state. At region, the top 4 finishers in each event will advance to state. In lane events, that means qualifying for finals on Thursday and then finishing in the top four. All relays, field, and distance events will advance the top 4 finishers to state.

We are only allowed a certain number of entries, so not everyone will be able to compete, although it is expected that everyone be at the meet to support. All of our distance runners who don't run in any other events at the meet will be entered into the "unseeded mile" on Thursday, which is a JV mile, and is an event that I'm really looking forward to.

Entries will be finalized tomorrow night. In many cases, decisions will need to be made about which events to participate in, balancing individuals going to state and team relays making it as well. I will need to speak with anyone who has been on a relay at an invitational tomorrow at practice as we weigh decisions going into the meet.

There will not be a bus to the meet. Everyone on the team will be excused at 2:10 to go to the meet (those of you in the track class on Wednesday... check canvas for class start time, which will likely be later, and potentially at Woods Cross).

You can find the order of events below.

5/1 update

Redhawks,

You can find the schedule for region below.

You can find the results from the meets this week at the following links: (Edit, runnercard is currently down, so I'll update these links later)

Woods Cross

Box Elder

Davis

This week we have two different meets. The first is on Thursday at home, and all will be required to help and manage the meet - those in the class will receive a portion of their grade based on being there the entire time, until you are dismissed as a group after everything is completed. Assignments will be sent out later in the week.

Those who are unable to attend, or qualify for, the BYU meet will be racing at our meet on Thursday. Those who want to race at BYU need to have hit the qualifying marks at a State Qualifying meet, which means an invitational such as District, The Relay meet, Woods Cross Invite, the St. George Races, or the Davis invitational. You can view the standards and schedule here.

If you have qualified for an event at BYU and would like to go, or not go, please let me know so I can make correct entries and plan my life (do I need to get a sub? Do I need to go down at 6 AM on Friday and Saturday, or just one day?) Your prompt feedback is appreciated, and we can discuss it further at practice tomorrow if you are uncertain. For some of you who are hoping to qualify for state at region (by finishing top 4 at that meet) you might consider limiting your events at BYU (unless your events aren't particularly taxing). For those who have reached the BYU standard but aren't particularly close to being in a top 4 position at region, I recommend going to race at BYU, it's an awesome venue and a lot of fun. For those who might be close to qualifying by time, BYU might give you a great chance of hitting that mark, as it is one of the fastest places to race, with great crowds and competition. Anyway, those are some things to consider.

The 3200 and relays are determined based on the fastest times submitted. I think our boys 4x1 would make it, and both 4x800s, with the possibility of the 4x2s and girls 4x1. That is all tbd, however.

This week is BYU, next week is region, the following week is state, the week after that is the last week of school. I don't usually feel this way, but I'm kind of sad that this season/year is ending. I've had a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to the last few weeks.

If you have any questions please let me know.
