Braves,
We had a great couple of days at the meets this week, with many personal bests. There were, of course, many who didn't have a PR this week. It is natural to feel disappointed when you don't hit your goals, if only due to the amount of time and effort you have put in to achieving those goals. Disappointment is a natural byproduct, but we cannot let that disappointment linger and affect us moving forward. Once again, the question is did you try as hard as you could this in the race/at the meet/during the week? If the answer is yes then you should feel proud of your accomplishments, and trust that the PRs will be coming, because they will if you continue to give your best. If the answer is no, well then let us find ways to work a little harder/better. It is the working to improve and reach goals that is valuable and determines success, not necessarily the goals themselves. Changing the definition of success to your effort rather than the outcome doesn't cheapen the experience or lesson accomplishments, in fact it is the opposite. The thrill of accomplishing a goal is only had because of the hard work. A goal reached without much effort is a cheap experience that isn't rewarding. On the other hand, reaching a goal for which you have worked hard is very rewarding precisely because of the work you put in. Ultimately the success, however, isn't reaching the goal, it's the process you took to reach that goal. I would rather work hard to reach a goal and fall short than not try at all and manage to reach a goal. Let us recognize the things we are doing well and the areas where we can improve.
The last bit on that, is to also find joy in your teammates' success. It is always easier to do when you are also doing well, but even when you're struggling, finding joy for your teammates will help you get back into your groove as well.
This week we have another meet here, on Thursday. We honestly need all the help we can get. Hosting is very stressful for me, and the more help we have the easier it is. Again, thank you to all who stayed and helped last week.
There is a meet on Saturday at Davis High. We will know what entries were accepted into the meet by tomorrow or Wednesday. Because it is so selective, most of you will not be racing on Saturday, but we encourage you to come support your teammates, like the many of you who came last Saturday, which was awesome.
We will be COVID tested on Thursday at 1 PM.
Meet results from last week can be found on our website (2021 meet results).
If you have any questions please let me know.
