Season Wrap

 Braves,

What an end to the year. There is a lot I would like to say on the matter, including a recap of the great things that you did this year, but I will save that for our team party this next week.

Some of our athletes are planning the get together - here is the information: Our end of year party will be Tuesday, 6 PM at Rocket Park (Tolman Park). We will be doing a potluck. Sign up for what you want to bring (so we don't end up with 10 people bringing watermelon) and come hang out with the team! We will be giving out some dundies and having a good time. Click here for the putlock sign up. We will have some end of season recognition at the party as well - I hope you all can make it.

The last few things that need to be addressed are the track class, uniforms, and upcoming cross country.

Class will still be held next Tuesday and Thursday (and the next Tuesday), but we will not be running. We will meet in my classroom at 12:50 (except the last week of school) and go from there. You do not need to change from your regular clothes.

Uniform tops can be purchased for $15. If you do not want to buy them you need to return them to me by class time on Tuesday. I need all the shorts returned. If you decide to buy the top, please pay in the office (track account) and bring me the receipt so I can mark you as having "returned" your uniform. I have to enter fines (today actually but I'm stalling) so please get them to me pronto.

All of you not involved in a summer/fall sport are encouraged and welcome to join us for summer XC and then the official season of XC in the fall. We are gearing up for a great season, with some great kids on the team and coaches helping, so I'm really looking forward to it. The time and place of our first meeting is still TBD, but I'm thinking next Friday around 1 PM. More info to come.

If you have any questions please let me know.

5/16 update

 Braves,

The state championships are on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Spectators will need to buy tickets in advance at this site (athletes will not need a ticket).

As of now we do not have a bus going to state, but that might change so I will keep you posted. The schedule of events can be found here but be sure to scroll down to page 3.

Thursday we will be headed up to JV region at Box Elder. Everyone who did not compete at state will be eligible to race there. I know that many of you have an orchestra conflict that evening, so transportation is an issue. The directive from the district is that you can ride home with your parent/guardian, but not with anyone else, so if you can only be there for the beginning and need to leave early, you'll need to arrange with a parent to make that happen. I know it is a long drive for a parent to make, there and back, for a race that is as short as 12 seconds, or as long as 8 minutes, but those are the rules as given to me. Obviously I'm hoping you all can make it, including those who run at state, to come and support, as it will be the last meet of the year- and for you seniors, the last high school meet ever.

We will be practicing as usual today for the last time this year. Be there to sharpen up before your events.

If you missed covid testing last week talk to me about times/places to go make it up.

Let me know if you have questions.

5/9 update

 Braves,

The region championships are on Wednesday and Thursday of this week at Farmington High. For lane events they will do a trials on Wednesday with the top 8 advancing to finals on Thursday. For distance events it will be a timed finals, meaning the top 8 score. Field events will be as usual, with the trials going first, and then the top 9 advance to finals immediately following the trials.

The top 4 of each final will qualify for the state championships next week (Tuesday/Wednesday at Davis High School - I didn't update that on the calendar until today but we have talked about it at length at practice. The state meet will begin at 2 PM each day - the state schedule can be found here but be sure to scroll down to the 5A-6A schedule).

We will be taking a bus to region, and all are encouraged to attend both days, whether racing or not, to support the team. An excuse time and bus departure time will be sent out tomorrow.

This meet is going to be a great opportunity for many of our athletes to qualify for state, so let's be ready to compete hard, and cheer on your teammates in their races. Because of entry limitations we will not be able to get everyone into the meet, but there is a JV region meet on Thursday of next week, the day after state. All who do not qualify for state will be eligible to race there.

5/1 update

 Braves,

I love this time of year because it is when the hard work from the winter and early spring begins to pay off. I updated the performance lists after the JV meet and most of the season's best marks came from that day. It will be similar when I complete the update after yesterday's meet. Shout out to Sarah for going under 8 in the mile; Andrew, Trevor, and Sam in the 800 for qualifying for BYU, and the first two turning around and running an awesome 4x400; Ethan for going under 2 minutes in the 800; Sebring for two PRs in the hurdles to qualify for BYU; Kali'i with the 4 ft pr in the shot; Draper for going under 11s in the 100m; Alyssa and Jaelyn for big PRs in the sprints on Thursday. And many more.

Again, PRs are fun, but they aren't the mark of success. The mark of success is doing the small things everyday to get better. If you consistently work hard and give your best effort physically and mentally then you will be successful no matter the outcomes. Are you doing the best you know how? If so, then you won't have any regrets.

The season is rapidly coming to a close, so please enjoy each practice and savor every opportunity to race.

This week we have a meet at Bonneville on Thursday, and then the BYU invitational on Friday/Saturday. Those going to BYU will not compete at Bonneville, and vice versa. The info for BYU can be found here. There are qualifying standards there so anyone who has qualified can go. For distance runners, in most cases, I don't recommend in competing in more than 1 event since we are turning around and racing at region the following week, so please talk to me about which event(s) you would like to run in. For sprinters and field events, I probably don't recommend 4 events, but 2-3 events is probably ok, depending on the event.

Registration is due on TUESDAY at 8 AM so I need to know by Monday if you would like to go. The ideal would be you reply to this email and let me know.

We have this week, region next week, and state/JV region the following week, and then the season is over. I can't believe how fast it has gone - thank you for making this an enjoyable year. Now let's make the most of the last 3 weeks.
