We are one week out from the start of the outdoor season. As a reminder, all students looking to join the team must have their aktivate completed, no more than 1 F, and 0 Us to be considered eligible to practice. Students that don't meet those standards will not be allowed to practice until they meet the eligibility standards.

We are thrilled to welcome Rachel Welborn as our new throws coach! Rachel competed in sprints and hurdles at Bountiful High and is still the school record holder in several events. More recently, she competed in the several events, including the heptathlon at the University of Utah. Welcome to the team, Rachel!

Tuesday, January 27, 2026

We are less than 1 month out from the start of the outdoor track season. Time has been flying by! We have a few indoor meets left before we get there, but there are a few items of business that need to be addressed to get prepared for the outdoor season.

If your student is planning on competing in the outdoor season, they will need to complete Register My Athlete and have an updated physical. Physicals are good for one year, but if you need to get a new physical done, start planning to meet with your doctor. The last thing we want to happen is to cut someone from the team because they are not officially registered.

Along with the Register My Athlete registration, there will be a track fee to be paid online through myDSD or in the office. We will be sending out a cost breakdown once it has been approved by the district. If you have any questions please feel free to contact myself or Coach Conner.

Term 3 grades will dictate your eligibility for the outdoor season. You are allowed ONE “F” and must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Multiple “F”s or a GPA lower than 2.0 will result in an automatic cut from the team. All citizenship “U”s must be cleared to compete. Coaches have an updated list of who has multiple “F”s and “U”s if you have any questions. Both can also be viewed on your Graduation Summary on myDSD.

Once registration, fees, and grades are completed, we will start handing out jerseys. If you ran track last year or competed in cross country, you will keep the same jersey. If you are new to the team, coaches will hand out jerseys before the first meet.

Davis Recap

We had some amazing performances this past weekend at Davis with several qualifying for BYU.  Lizzy set new PR's in both the 100 & 200.  Hayden set new PR's in the 800 & 1600.   Lydia ramped up the drama by kicking 7 places in the last 200m of her mile, setting a season best and qualifying.  Conner electrified the crowd throughout his race and finished dominantly in his heat setting a new PR and qualifying.  Good times!

I've registerd everyone that qualifies for BYU according to my records.

Registered Athletes for BYU

PLEASE check this list for accuracy I feel terrible when I miss people.  If I've overlooked you or there are any events you don't want to compete in let me know by today at practice.  Requirements can be fond on the Meet Info link on the calendar and blog.

Practice today will be at 8:00pm again under the lights on the track.  Hope to see everyone there.  It's awesome!!!

Another Week

I'm looking forward to some quality training sessions this week. I really hoped to hold a training under the lights this sometime this week, but there are Lacrosse games every night and they won't be cleared out until 9:00.  So plan on normal practice times.

We have 2 meets this week.  The first is a JV meet on Thursday and we are hosting Bonneville & Viewmont at our track.  The second meet is the Wildcat Invitational @ WX on Friday.  This meet has minimum requirements.  I expect everyone who doesn't qualify for the invitational to compete in the meet on Thursday.  Please look at the marks below and sign up here for your events by Tuesday night.

Bountiful Meet Athlete Sign Up

I will need as much help as we had last time hosting.  If you want want to compete on Friday, you must help host on Thursday.  Talk to me personally if you have a conflict.  Sign up for an assignment here soon. Those competing on Thursday, please sing up for an assignment that will be fixable with your events.

We have a crazy week filled with meets.  I was just informed there is a JV meet this Thursday @ Box Elder to make up for a cancelation.  We are hosting the Jr High tomorrow, Wednesday is Region Relays @ WX, & Friday is the Phoenix Invite.  I've reached out to everyone qualifying for the Varsity meets, but need to know who wants to compete on Thursday.

Thank you all for signing to help at the meet tomorrow.  I'll be there by 12 or 1:00 to start setting up.  Come as soon as you can after school.  Meet starts at 3:00

Junior High Track Meet - April 11th - Help Needed!!!

 Parents & Athletes,

I forgot we have been asked to host a Junior High meet on April 11th at 3:30.  I'm headed out of town for spring break this Thursday the 30th and returning on the 11th at 12:00pm.  The day of the meet and I've never done this before in my life.  I have some basic information from some other coaches, but I need more than myself to make this happen.

There is a sign up genius with all the assignments I need filled.

Genius Sign-Up

I only have 2 volunteers so far.   I expect every athlete on the team to take a slot and be there the entire meet.  Given my schedule we will only have a few hours before the race unless someone would be willing to be CEO of the meet.  Please take time to get signed up for something and I'll do my best to coordinate everything by the time I return.

District Championship Meet - March 29-30

As of today this meet is scheduled for Wednesday March 29th and Thursday March 30th.  There are rumblings that more bad weather is slated for next week and they may run a single day meet on Tuesday March 28th instead.  There will be a final decision on Sunday night.

We are limited to 4 athletes per gender per event except for the 1600 which will allow 10.

We are allowed one relay team per gender per event.

If you would like to compete at this meet I need you to sign up here by Sunday night.

District Championship Sign-Up

Since I don't have official marks to identify the top 4, we can run some time trials if there are too many for one event.

Indoor Kickoff Meeting

Indoor is going to be treated as Pre-season conditioning. Nothing hyper focused. Just fun!  If you haven't already, please complete the sign up steps in the link above.

If you think there is any chance you will do Outdoor, please complete the Register My Athlete as soon as possible.

Coaches so far:

Brittany - Head Female Coach - All throwing

Dalton - Assistant Coach - Distance 800/1600/3200

Me - Jumping, Sprint, & Hurdles Coach

If anyone knows someone that would be willing to coach in any way please let me know.

My training will be complete, but very self driven.   If you follow the prescribed training program you will enjoy this sport and be successful.  I use the Training Calendar as my bible.  All workouts, circuits, meets, & parties will be posted there.  Become familiar with it and let me know if anything is confusing.

The workouts for Track include lots of training other than just running.  Strength Training, Drills, & Circuits will either have a link or an explanation on the Drills & Circuits tab.

Official practices through the end of February will be A days only.  Unless we get told otherwise I plan to make the weightroom our meeting place.

There will be some type of workout every day on the schedule.  Please organize with others and meet up on the off days.

Look for a shirt order form with our contest winners designs and a racing singlet sometime the end of this week.

It's going to be a fun season.  I'm excited about the group we had there today.

2023 Track & Field

The 2023 Track & Field season is just around the corner.  You will find all the pertinent information in the links above.  If you are interested in participating in any capacity, Indoor or Outdoor, please complete the sign up checklist.  Most of our day to day communication will be through GroupMe so it is critical that you get yourself added to that thread.

Indoor conditioning will begin January 4th with meets starting January 20th.  The tentative meet schedule is included on the Team Calendar as well as the 2023 Meets page.  I'm still working on fees and an athlete packet that will be offered around the 1st of the year.  Fees will cover our meet entries and the packet will include a required singlet as well as two other optional team items designed by the Cross Country team.

The culmination of the indoor season will be the Simplot Games in Pocatello Idaho February 16-18th.  Costs would be the responsibility of each athlete interested, but I'd really like to take as many team members as possible.  Keep that on your radar and I'll be putting together some rough numbers for travel and accomodations.

Outdoor season officially starts February 27th.  There will be additional information to come as we get closer to that date.

5/22 update (not 5/15 like the email says... oops)

Redhawks,

That is a wrap on the Outdoor 2022 season, and it has been one that I have really enjoyed. I want to thank all of you for making it a memorable and fun season.

Team Party

We will have a team party tomorrow, Monday at 3 PM at West Bountiful City Park - that is the park off of pages lane, near the the freeway. There will be ice creak sundaes, we'll have awards, honor the seniors and say our farewells, play sand volleyball or other park games, and generally hang out. If you have any lawn-games like spikeball or anything else, please bring them. Even if you kind of fizzled out at the end of the year, you are still invited to the end of year party.

I have created a form for some voting, please go vote here on a few awards.

Uniforms

PLEASE BRING ME YOUR UNIFORM TOMORROW AT SCHOOL. I have the secretaries place fines on the accounts of those who have not returned the uniforms to me, and it needs to be placed tomorrow before noon. So bring it to me before then or you will have a fine and will be unable to pick up your yearbook. Don't bring it to the party, the fines already need to be entered by then. Also, if you are doing xc with Bountiful next year (this excludes seniors OBVIOUSLY), you can hold on to yours for now. Just tell me if that is your plan. (This just kicks the can down the road, you'll still need to return it next year.)

Wrap

I don't have adjectives to properly describe how great the experience has been to be the coach at Bountiful High, and I will miss each of you. The friendships built here are ones that I will always treasure, and while I'll be coaching at another school, I will always consider myself your coach, and I hope you feel the same way.

5/15 update

 Redhawks,

Well done to everyone at Region, and now we are on to State. You can find the entries for state here. Look them over and let me know if anything is incorrect. Look over the relay teams as well. Alternates, we need you at the meet, planning as if you are going to run, so that if anything happens we can sub you in.

State Meet Schedule

There won't be a bus to state, so please make arrangements to arrive with plenty of time to be ready for your event. I suggest 2 hours early (so you can make it through traffic, have time to get into the facility, which requires a bit of a walk, have time to find the team, warm up, and check in - which is more cumbersome at BYU than a typical meet), with the exception only being the first event of the day.

Those who aren't competing at state are still encouraged to attend and support. Everyone who comes down to the meet will be excused from school for the day (Thursday). ALL WHO ARE GOING TO STATE NEED TO SPEAK WITH THEIR A-DAY TEACHERS ASAP TO LET THEM KNOW YOU WON'T BE THERE ON THURSDAY, AND MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO MAKE UP ANYTHING YOU WILL MISS.

JV Region on Tuesday, 5/17

Everyone NOT competing at state is eligible to compete at JV region. However, in many instances, if you were a borderline state runner/thrower/jumper, it is probably not appropriate for you to be competing at JV region. Speak with me if that applies to you and you are interested in competing.

If you do not intend to compete at the meet on Tuesday, LET ME KNOW ASAP, so that I don't enter you. The last thing we want to do is enter a million people who aren't even going to show up, and then the meet takes way longer with multiple heats only half full. That being said, if I don't see you at practices over the next few days, I'm probably not going to enter you, just assuming you have quit.

The bus for JV region leaves at 1:30, so you will be excused at 1:15 on Tuesday. Those in the class do not need to come until boarding the bus.

Those going to state are strongly encouraged to come to Bonneville to do your workout before the meet, and then support your teammates. The meet will probably be a bit longer than most... Maybe we'll go get dinner as a team after returning to Bountiful?? (Bring some money just in case)

Let me know if you have any questions.

Coach Jacobson
