"The Fastest Redhawk" and "The Strongest Redhawk competitions will be held on Thursday, March 3rd at 2:45 PM, and will run concurrently with our "Alumni Meet".
If you are interested in participating, please register for the competitions here. This is to know how many heats will be required, and how much pizza to get.
"The Fastest Redhawk" will be a 100m race to determine who is the fastest boy and girl in our school. Heats will be created to determine who are the finalists. The fastest runners will advance out of the heats and into the final rounds. Here is an example of how that might work:
The most likely scenario is that there will be a first round, and a final race. If we have 36 participants, there will be 6 heats of 6 people (our track only has 6 lanes). The winner of each heat will advance to the final.
If we have greater than 36 participants, say 45 boys and 45 girls sign up, we will make 8 heats of 5-6 people. The winner of each heat will advance to the semi-final, and then the next four fastest times who didn't win their heats will occupy the last 4 spots of the 12 person, 2 heat semi-final.
In this scenario, the top 3 from each semi-final would advance to the 6 person final. In the event we have more than 45 people sign up, there would be more semi-final heats, meaning more people could advance to the semi-final, but fewer people from each semi-final heat would advance to the final. If we have fewer than 36 entries, and therefore 6 or fewer heats, we would do the one round followed by a final, with the winner of each opening heat advancing to the final.
We will do our best to spread runners around to try to ensure that the fastest 6 people make it to the final.
In order to ensure adequate recovery between each race, we will stagger the races so they aren't one after another.
"The Strongest Redhawk" competition will be a Shot Put competition.
Each person will get 3 official throws (after a warm-up period), which will be measured. The farthest throw will be the one used to determine your placement. The top 3 throwers will be the winners.
Awards
The top 3 finishers of each gender in both the 100m and Shot Put will receive Amazon Gift cards, $20, $15, $10. Every person who participates will be entered into a raffle to win 4 $20 gift cards, so even if you don't finish in the top-3, you will have a chance to win.
Pizza will also be provided for all who participate.
Alumni Mile
All BHS alumni are welcome and encouraged to come to the meet to catch up with friends, coaches, and run the 1600m with the athletes of today. You are not required to be faster than the youth, of course. You can race hard or take it easy.
